I first read Mr. Maybe during my major Brit Lit-love fest of the early-2000s. More than a decade later...and I'm happy to say that I still love this book.Mr. Maybe is more women's fic (or chick lit, as we used to call it then) than romance. While yes, Libby does experience passion and infatuation and ultimately love, this is the story of a young woman finding her own self-worth and learning what she and her heart deserves.
Mr. Maybe is early, yet classic, Jane Green. The protagonist is an unapologetically real and honest woman who comes to life-changing realizations about herself, there is an excellent cast of secondary characters; there is a man who is not from a fairy tale, but is winning in his own way; and there is laughter. Mr. Maybe was just as wonderful as I remembered. I had a wonderful time reading it again all these years later. And wow, what more could I ask for?
"I’ve come home. It’s difficult to explain, but there is something so familiar, so comfortable, so right about this moment, it suddenly feels like I am exactly where I should be, at exactly the right time, with exactly the right person."

Mr Maybe A Novel Jane Green 9780767905206 Books Reviews
The book was entertaining and put a smile on my face. I brought me back to a time when I was single and would compromise what I wanted/needed in Mr. Right just to make whoever I was dating fit. I think it is very much what many girls do and can therefore relate to.
If you are in your 20's, single, & working, you will LOVE this book. I found the situations, characters, and even the dialogue to be very true to life. I associated many of my own experiences with the main character's. This book is so much fun you won't want to put it down. It flows nicely and the characters are so loveable you want to know what will happen to them.
For any Jane Green lovers out there, you won't be disappointed! This book is as good as Jemima J, if not better!! I have leant this book to several of my friends because it was so witty and well developed. Take this book to the beach this summer, or spend a weekend alone with mr. maybe. You won't be sorry!
The predictability of this book deterred me during the first 100 pages, but the plot twisted a little and it then became an entertaining, if still light, read. Libby is another one of those English girls who has a fun career in public relations, a nice circle of friends but feels her lovelife is lacking. Two guys appear on the scene, worlds apart, and the story basically becomes about who she will choose. Like too many women in real life, Libby's focus is on having a wedding as opposed to having a marriage, i.e. its all about "the big day", rather than the reality of a lifelong commitment. This is a well-written story, a fun read but expectations for something different in this genre of books should be limited.
I was in the mood for something light, something funny, and I found Mr. Maybe, and it was the perfect match. Jane Green's tale of a young woman in search of love in London (yes, we've read these before, but that doesn't take away from the fun) is amusing and entertaining. Libby, our heroine, meets Nick, a hunky commitmentphobe. They think they will have a little fling, but somehow, start to fall in love.... Nick really wasn't Mr. Right anyway, too poor, yucky friends, etc. So Libby hooks up with one of the wealthiest eligible bachelors around. Now there's Mr. Right, right? OK, not the most original plot, but the characters are a lot of fun. Libby talks to you as if you are her best friend, which makes the novel an enjoyable, breezy read. The supporting cast are all believable and no subplot takes away from the story at hand. If you are looking for some fun summer reading, look no more. This one is loads of fun. Enjoy
Such a fun, light hearted book that kept me giggling. This was the perfect beach - especially for any girl who has / had dating drama and wondered if she should love him or dump him. I think that in some ways most girls can relate to Libby and many of her feelings about dating and the men in her life... I know I did. I especially loved the conversational tone of the book!
I rate this a 5 in the easy read category. Any young woman can see some part of herself. Even though I am past my prime I still remember the days of searching for Mr. Right. I like Jane Green books. Always a pleasant read.
Libby Mason thinks she knows what she wants out of life, and out of Mr. Right. She's having a hot affair with an out-of-work writer, Nick, when she ends up meeting one of "the most eligible bachelors in England", Ed. Libby thinks Ed could be Mr. Right -- he treats her like a princess, and he's rich enough to give her the lifestyle she thinks she has always dreamed of.
But is Ed really Mr. Right? Or is he simply Mr. Maybe?
