First, let me preface this by saying that I don't get the whole 'taboo-thang' surrounding step-siblings and romance. It's not incest. There are no blood ties. Imagine my surprise that there seems to be an entire literary genre around the topic. I'll admit I've read my fair share as light-weight reading entertainment.....the more tattoos thrown in the better. Simple stories usually with a heavy dose of erotica to raise the bar on 'scandalousness' and for readers' giggles and grins. Usually these books concern parents marrying when the children are older. All fine and good, but what happens if, as children, you've practically grown up together? What if your new 'family' doesn't join together in late teens or young adulthood? What if, as most stories go in this genre, there are no breaks in time to lead separate adult lives for a few years, by joining the military or going to college? What happens as pre-teens/early teens, you are thrown together and over time realize that what you're feeling isn't perceived as 'normal'....how do you come to terms, if you even can, with everything that life has to throw at you growing up adding the confusion that such an attraction would elicit? That's what Inked is all about, and light-weight it most certainly is not.Stepbrother Inked is a deep emotional journey that's honest and raw and had me aching in Abi and Flor's pain, sorrow, and longing. It's about two young people trying to overcome their feelings in very different ways. Abi's need for honesty and Flor's need to hide shame and guilt, and that's before the touching even begins. It's not about sex first, as most in this genre seem to begin their story with, but about true emotions developing slowly first and foremost. Inked is about the struggle, and crazy behavior, to try and overcome the truth. It's about accepting the truth, the coming out and freedom of honesty, as well as the release of deep seated pain. Pain that is handed over to those now dealing with this new reality and pain as a consequence, eventually all working their way through the emotions towards the best HEA that can be expected.
I found Inked a compelling story that explores the different ways in which real flawed human beings might handle such a scenario and the resulting consequences and aftermath. The only thing I cast as a negative was what I will term the 'swapping' near the end so as not to give too much away and the unbelievable HEA about THAT in particular. I felt it detracted immensely from what up to that point was a fabulous rich story that took me by surprise.

Stepbrother Inked A Bad Boy Stepbrother Romance edition by Violet Blaze Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
This is the first book that I have read from Violet Blaze and fell in love with her characters and the progression that they go through to find there own happy ending (controversial or not.) To me the characters were believable especially for the age they were meant to be. In previous books I have found the drama to be dull and boring or unnecessary however for both characters mostly Flor getting past the idea of his step sister and the age gap it's heart breaking but also restored by the end of the book.
Truly amazing and surprised how good this book was I couldn't get enough. I gave it 5 stars ✨ because I have no words to describe how incredible and sexy this book was. This book kept me on the edge of my sit the whole Freaking Time! I have no complaints about how the ploy unraveled itself because it did justice to the main characters in the way they fought for want they believed on but I guess I understand why it took so long for the relationship to form and then to be accepted was a very good way to see how difficult things would be if it happened in real life. I would recommend this book to anyone that would like to read it.
It took me way too long to read this book. The heroine I could not connect with. Too melodramatic. Too immature. Maybe this is better suited for the YA instead of NA crowd. By the end, I did not care if the H/h got together or not. Did not feel romantic, though the premise was there. The author has the tools to write good erotica, but this felt very hollow and insincere. Here's the thing, I hold books (yes, even romance books) to a high standard. Give us characters to care about and root for. Give us actual love and romance. Make it emotional, and somewhat practical. In short, balance the narrative. Maybe I'm asking for too much (I'm almost certain I am). If this was a KU read I wouldn't be as disgruntled. The sample had promise and I took a chance. I don't think I'll be taking another one on this author unless she makes her books KU. Otherwise, not a recommended buy.
My rating A will they, won't they, unfortunately, they will 2.0
Update 11/4/2016 This is my favorite stepbrother romance I have ever read!!!! I originally borrowed this by Unlimited but I had to buy my own copy.
There is some cheating (no married cheating) but there is an equality to the cheating so it isn't like one person is innocently hurt by one-sided cheating. Sometimes True Loves are with people who aren't right for them and it takes some mistakes to figure that out. I just read it for the third time and I love it so I wanted to make sure I had my own copy and that Violet Blaze gets some credit for this sexy, satisfying read. I don't usually re-read romances...this one just leaves me happy!!!!!
Original Review
Violet Blaze tells a good story. There was some odd phrasing and a few incorrect word choices but those were inconsequential when compared to the flow, pain and pleasure of this angst-filled slow burning romance.
I love how the sub genre "stepbrother romance" (and "bad boy romance") sounds so trashy and cheesy but yet serves as a setting to deal with more complex issues.
This is a lighter read than some other bad boy/step romance because the dark secrets are normal issues that people face (unlike "secret baby"/shifter/mafia/billionaire/bdsm/pathological jealously issues). I appreciate that. Here the hero is gorgeous sexy pierced stepbrother who is a tattoo artist and owns his own shop. Why does it have to be more complicated than that? (Multiple piercings in interesting places...*winks.*)
I see Violet Blaze's next book has about 5 sub genre descriptors in its title, so again, I love how this is just a simple, sweet and hot stepbro/ bad boy "True-Love" romance which could happen in the real world!
