His Broken Angel The Glorious Victorious Darcys Novella A Penguin Special from Signet Eclipse edition by Beth Ciotta Paranormal Romance eBooks

A short and easy read that holds true to the action, adventure and romance of the rest of the series.

Amazingly, this short story reminded me of the movie 'Valentine's Day'. A slue of characters that seem separate at first but end up having certain relationships in common, or portions of their lives that overlap. Ciotta brings in Doc Blue's brother, a distant(unheard of) cousin of Amelia Darcy and Tucker Gentry's sister.

I found two things a bit hard to understand. The first being that Doc Blue and Lily Gentry fell in love almost instantaneously despite the fact that Lily is blind upon their intital meeting. Also, they are ready to marry come the end of the story. That had to be what, a few weeks, if that. The rushed relationship puts somewhat of a damper on enjoying the romance for me personally.

The second, and I am surprised I didn't question this before - but if Freaks use tinted glasses in order to make their kaleidoscope eyes appear "normal", wouldn't them wearing colored spectacles be a big red flag that they aren't exactly human? The use of corneatacts (colored contacts) would make more sense if they wanted to blend into general society, but what about tinted glasses says that you are like everyone else? Just seems counterproductive to me.

His Broken Angel The Glorious Victorious Darcys Novella A Penguin Special from Signet Eclipse edition by Beth Ciotta Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

If you are fans of the series, you will love this short about Blue. He is one of my favorite characters and I really enjoyed having this perspective of his. Considering the ending, I cannot wait until the next book to find out the ramifications and see if Blue is forgiven.
It's well written. Even though I haven't read the first two books, it gave enough insight so you won't be lost of the characters. I wasn't sure if I'm going to like the set up but it was well written. I enjoyed it very much. I end up buying the first two books. Can't wait to read them.
Thanks!
No dillydally in this story. BANG, the protagonists' beloved, respected (by them, anyway) father ... oops, no plot spoiler here. Anyway, off they go in search of ... oops, no plot spoiler here. And, romance looms immediately for two of the three - though the reader doesn't know about the other one until further in the story. Great fun, very easy suspension of disbelief, perfectly acceptable comic book invulnerability, superpowers, comedic sidekicks, steampunk machinery (and probably costuming, too, but I'm male and completely insensitive to that) - what's not to like?
I wasn't a follower of Steampunk until I began reading Beth Ciotta's series "The Glorious Victorious Darcys" -- now I'm hooked. I've been reading Beth's books for years (since she won her first book award at the NJ Romance Writers Conference), and Beth has a wonderfully fun way of engaging readers into her stories. The questions all of us raise in relationships, her characters also face which cements readers to very emotional connections to the plot and its main characters, letting us all feel like we are invested in the final outcome outcome of the story. Now that I'm hooked into the romantic world of steampunk, I can't wait to not only read more of this series, I'm hoping she will do more novellas of her ongoing characters in this saga -- its brilliant!
This book is the second in a series, but provides enough details of the backstory, that it can easily be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone. Having read the first book, "Her Sky Cowboy", I loved the way this book kept us in updated with Amelia and Tucker, all the while explaining the actions of Doc Blue, and what led him to a dark point in his life (no more info than that, to avoid spoilers).

The characters are funny, brave, flawed, and the story has action, romance, steam, and a really interesting plot line, that involves two worlds and times intertwining. While it was a fast-paced and breezy read, the political backdrop and the repercussions from the two worlds being melded together, actually made me reflect on some of the social issues in our society today.

I recommend the series for a great mix of romance and adventure.
His Broken Angel is a short connected to Ciotta's Glorius Victorius Darcys steampunk series, and falls after the first book Her Sky Cowboy The Glorious Victorious Darcys which I started but didn't finish - I liked the idea of the series but didn't get immediately hooked.

Well I have to admit I had the same problem with this short, while I liked the idea of the hero Doc Blue, I had to force myself to keep picking this story back up after setting it back down several times until about 2/3rds through I finally got invested enough to read through to the finish. His Broken Angel ended up being okay, but the instalove was kind of hard to deal despite the fact that as a short story lover I am normally more forgiving. Though to be fair, in this case since hero appears in the first book the reader may have been expected to bring character development for Doc with them from the first book. I am guessing that is the case since the heroine was a bit better fleshed out.

That said, even with having to work to finish this My Broken Angel, I am still tempted to go back and try to finish the first book, we'll see if time (and the advent of new shinies) permits.
